Ontario Apple Chips
Crisp, oven baked apple chips with a hint of cinnamon-y-sweetness offer a nutritious solution for snack time. Portable and delicious, these ‘chips’ make a great addition to any lunchbox or family outing. Have your little one help prepare their treat by measuring and sprinkling the cinnamon and sugar atop fresh sliced apples.
Makes about 2 cups (500 mL) of apple chips.
Variety Tip: For best results, use Ambrosia, Empire, Gala or your favourite Ontario variety.
Ingredients

2 tbsp | sugar | 30 mL |
1 tsp | cinnamon | 5 mL |
Directions
Before you begin: Preheat oven to 200ºF (100ºC).
Thinly slice apples crosswise about 1/8 inch (2 mm) thick with a mandoline or sharp knife. Arrange apple slices in a single layer on two parchment-lined rimmed baking sheets.
In small bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon. Put mixture into a sieve and sprinkle evenly over apple slices.
Bake in the top and bottom third of the oven until apples are dry and crisp, about 2 hours. Remove from oven and let ‘chips’ cool completely before transferring to a sealed container for up to 3 days.
